| Safend, a leading
endpoint security company, has joined hands with best-of-breed
USB drive manufacturers to set a new level in secure computing
using removable media. By combining Safend’s granular
port protection solution
together with highly secure removable storage, Safend brings
to the market a strong enterprise-grade solution.
The Solution:
- Enforces regulatory compliance by allowing only secure
drives to connect
- Provides protection from unauthorized users and
devices
- Eliminates headaches – if the drive is lost,
there’s no security risk
- Enhances productivity for the enterprise and mobile
users
The Need:
In wake of the recent regulations like HIPAA, SOX, GBLA,
etc., data security is of prime importance to organizations.
For instance HIPAA regulations mandate that data cannot be taken
out of an organization unless it is in a secure (encrypted)
format. Additionally, best practices call for inventory and
logs of all connected devices and all data transferred to a
device.
While USB drives and other portable storage devices improve
mobility and enhance productivity amongst employees, it is also
a major source confidential data loss due to unauthorized access.
Organizations are looking for solutions that can block access
of confidential data to unauthorized devices/users, while allowing
access to authorized users with secure devices – all in compliance
with regulations.
Safend
Solution:
Safend’s Protector blocks all
ports and opens a secure tunnel for approved devices only. Complimenting
Safend’s port protection solution with best-of-breed secure
USB drives ensures that corporate data can be accessed only
by company provided (or approved), fully encrypted USB flash
drives, without the fear of data leakage or theft.
Organizations can now be assured that only devices that are
provided to employees will work on the employee’s specific PC.
Any attempt to connect the USB drive to other PCs in the company,
or to connect other devices to that same PC will be blocked
(unless specifically approved by the company). When combining
this capability with encrypted drives, the solution is complete.
While employees continue to enjoy mobility and portability,
organizations can reap the benefits without comprising regulatory
compliance.
How does it work?
Safend’s granular solution grants access to devices based
on the unique User IDs (UIDs) or the unique serial numbers of
the device. Administrators can grant access to individual devices,
based on their UIDs. Thus an organization can create a "whitelist"
of all the secure drives allotted to specific employees, granting
unrestricted access of corporate data to authorized users on
authorized machines only.
In the event of theft or loss of the drive, it can be erased
from the "whitelist", thus preventing future access to the network.
With its secure encryption, the data on the drive remains safe
and inaccessible to any malicious user.
Which Drives to Use?
Safend works closely with device manufacturers and examines
the different products available on the market, making sure
that the highest standards and best practices of security are
utilized. Only the most secure drives in the market are offered
by Safend.
